Carbon footprint

The largest portion of Reykjavik Energy’s carbon footprint can be attributed to the utilisation of geothermal energy since carbon dioxide is one of the geothermal gas emissions from the geothermal steam.

The companies have been very successful at reducing their carbon footprint in recent years thanks to the sequestration of carbon dioxide in bedrock. Energy switching in Reykjavík Energy’s car fleet is also particularly important, as well as reducing waste, especially in production.
