Services

Orkuveita Reykjavíkur (OR) is a public utility provider for the greater Reykjavik area.  We provide electricity, hot water for heating, cold water for consumption, as well as maintaining sewage systems. Our service area extends to 20 communities and 67% of the Icelandic population.

Electricity is generated at the geothermal plants at Hellisheiði and Nesjavellir, and to a smaller degree at the Andakílsá and Elliðaárdalur hydroelectric plants.

Hot water is harnessed from low-temparature fields in Reykjavík and Mosfellsbær and distributed for space-heating, which reaches 99% of housing in the Reykjavík metro area. Hot water for space heating is also generated at the Nesjavellir and Hellisheiði Power Plants.

Cold water is collected from reservoirs outside of Reykjavík.

Our services also extend to smaller communities in the southern and western parts of Iceland.
