Laboratory
The Kinetics Laboratory of the Institute of Earth Sciences (KLIES) is directed by Domenik Wolff-Boenisch, PhD.
Activities of KLIES are an integral part of the CarbFix project and its installation has benefited from generous contributions from Orkuveita Reykjavikur. KLIES provides various reactor options to carry out dissolution/precipitation experiments under varying P/T and flow conditions. Major emphasis is placed on studies involving (ultra)mafic rocks, such as glassy/crystalline basalt and peridotite and their interaction with CO2 rich fluids, whether pure liquid/supercritical CO2 or CO2-charged waters. The outcome of these studies will enhance our understanding of mineral carbon sequestration and are implemented into reactive transport models.
