Trail 3

Ölkelduháls - Klambragil - Dalasel - Ölkelduháls

Difficulty level = 2
Distance = 6,8 km

A fun, circular trail suitable for most people. A lot of variety in landscape and ideal for children because of the "bath" in the "Hot creek".

The information post west of Ölkelduháls is a starting point for two trails. One leads to Innstidalur (trail 8) and the other we follow to Ölkelduháls, turning towards Klambragil. The edge of Klambragil has a great overview of the geothermal area in Hengill. In Klambragil, the hot and cold water blend to form a large creek, in places with deep pools ideal for bathing. After a relaxing bath, we start where the trail splits to Hveragerði (trail 5) and the one we follow to Dalasel hking hut, up the hillside. The trail splits at Dalasel, one leading to Úlfljótsvatn (trail 7) and the other we follow to Ölkelduháls, up a narrow path high above a ravine, until it joins the trail from Ölfusvatn (trail 6). We follow the one to Ölkelduháls, through a pass where it enters a vast area of hotsprings, bubbling clay pots and large, clearwater hot springs. The water can reach over 100°C, so be careful. Past the hot springs, the trail eventually leads to the starting point.
