Sleggjubeinsdalur - Innstidalur

Difficulty level = 2
Distance just under 4 km, including the "Hot creek".

An easy trail, fun for children. The hot creek is a nice bonus. 

The trail starts in Sleggjubeinsdalur, just past Hellisheiði Geothermal Plant. Following the ridge up to Sleggjubeinsskarð, past powerful hotsprings to the east, a view opens up towards Hellisheiði. At the top of the ridge, the trail splits to Vörðu-Skeggi (trail 10), and the one we follow straight ahead into Innstidalur valley.  Innstidalur is a flat, green valley. A creek with excellent drinking water runs along Innstidalur. To the northwest, Hengill´s highest peaks and cliffs tower above. To the east, the trail ends in a rough, lava field and splits to Ölkelduháls (trail 8) and to Vörðu-Skeggi (trail 11). An old hut is situated at the north side of the valley.  In the ravine below the hut lies a warm creek, which is excellent for a nice bath.  The creek´s temprature gradually cools downstream.
