Dyradalur - Marardalur - Engidalur

Distance to Marardalur = 5 km.  Add 2 km to Engidalur

An easy trail, suitable for most people, including children.

It starts through magnificent rock formations called "Klungrin", and follows a ridge with a clear view towards Reykjavík.  An information post splits the trail at the end of the ridge, with one way leading to Nesjavellir/Vörðu-Skeggi (trail 12) and another to Maradalur, which is the one we follow. Marardalur is a beautiful, enclosed valley, where a rest stop by the creek is a must. The view towards Vörðu-Skeggi, a towering peak above the valley, is memorable. A further 2 km hike leads to Engidalur, as the trail passes through a narrow ravine where trail 9 to Vörðu-Skeggi begins. The trail beside the creek leads to Múlasel hiking hut.
