Reykjavík Energy Receive Green Globe Accreditation
Reykjavík Energy recently received a Green Globe Benchmarked Bronze Status for its visitor's centers at the Hellisheiði and Nesjavellir geothermal plants.
The number of visitors to the Hellisheiði geothermal plant has increased year on year, with last year's 103.232 visitors setting a new record. The visitor centre at Hellisheiði is open every day from 9:00 to 18:00 and knowledgable staff inform guests about how geothermal energy is harnessed and about
the 150 kilometres of marked hiking trails around the Hengill area.

Green Globe is an international association that certifies tourism companies and communities working on projects to advance sustainability. A company must show a dedication to environmental improvements, show respect for the environment and community in its everyday activities and compensate for any environmental damage caused by it.
The Hellisheiði visitor's centre ticked all of Green Globe's boxes regarding for example CO2 emissions, energy consumption and management, environmental protection and land use, air quality, waste disposal and involvement in local community and cultural issues.
The centre is open daily from 09:00 - 18:00. Free admission.
